Mysteries

7-3-10
Some of Jess' co-workers are world travelers, literally, and are leaving soon on their next big adventure (they're moving to Kazakhstan). As such, they have gifted us with a bunch of food and crap they can't take with them. I have never seen weirder stuff in one kitchen before. Here is an example of a product which I looked at and thought "I don't know what the heck this is!" I had to send this picture via text message to them to find out that it was, in fact, "True Syrup of Lihge. Made with pears and apples, it's thick and sweet. Spread on bread (Belgian breakfast), eat w/yogurt or cottage cheese." Well at least it sounds tasty!

C is for Cookie

5-27-10
My friend, Adriana, is going back home to Indonesia next week. She's constantly feeding me, so I told her I'd bring her some cookies for the plane ride. Here they are, fresh out of the oven. Mmmmmm...I ate way too many Reese's cups while making these for her. Next trip abroad for Bekah will hopefully be to Indonesia! Maybe by then I'll have perfected a wheat-less recipe and can eat some of these cookies on the way there too!

Generosity

We had a potluck bbq at work today to celebrate our president's retirement. This was my contribution.

Farm Fresh!

4-23-10
Our second veggie box! This is only about half of what we got this week - and we still have a little left from the last box. All organic veggies/fruits picked straight off the farm yesterday and brought to our door. OM NOM NOM NOM!

Homemade

4-5-10
I forgot my phone at home today, so I took a picture of my dinner. I made this soup from scratch. Even the stock...most of it anyway. Booyah. It was delicious and so nutritious! It was so nutritious in fact that I decided to eat cake and ice cream after for balance.

Weird

3-22-10
I bet you think this pizza looks pretty good. You probably think it looks pretty normal, at least. Well it's not. It's weird. It's weird pizza. In an attempt to enjoy pizza despite my new wheat-free life, I made the dough with oat flour instead of regular flour, and although it looks alright it tasted funky. It also had a rather bizarre consistency. It was, however, edible so I suppose it earns some points for that.

Cupcakes...?

3-20-10
Jess was making cupcakes for a birthday party, and I was sad I couldn't eat any...so we tried making a vegan version (because it was the only wheat-free one I could find quickly). This is what the "cupcake" recipe produced. Um...yeah...they taste like nothing. Why, then, did I still eat three of them? Because the frosting was amazing...?

Proud to be an Anosmiac

3-19-10
Today was such a beautiful day that I couldn't stand staying inside for hours. So, after lunch my friend, Adrianna, and I decided that we ought to walk downtown to get some "Indonesian Ice." I didn't really know what to expect, so when we got there I ordered an ice with jackfruit and fresh coconut in coconut milk - all things I could recognize and sounded good. When my ice arrived though, it had more in it than I bargained for. The red pieces are seaweed jelly, and the green are avocado! There were other...jellyish...things at the bottom. It was definitely delicious, but I am not a fan of jelly-ish textures. Meanwhile, another co-worker who had come with us, Leslie, had ordered a durian ice. Apparently this fruit smells horrible but tastes wonderful. I tasted hers and loved it - and of course no horrible smelly consequences for me! I had a feeling the smell was getting to Leslie so I said, "I like yours better" (true) and she said "I like YOURS better" - so we switched. I. Love. Durian! SO TASTY! Sometimes, it pays to be an anosmiac.

Tacos Tacos Tacos!!!

3-3-10
Taco Truck Tuesday! Except it was Wednesday...anyway, here are Delphinie and Jess enjoying a mid-day excursion to get lunch at a Fruitvale Taco Truck. De-lic-ious.
Ok so I sort of cheated with 2 pictures, but that's only because I couldn't splice them together due to a virus on my computer (i.e. I can't open paint - and there are no rules saying you can't edit photos, which means I can splice them together).

Swanky

2-19-10
I went with my co-worker and friend to get some furniture from craigslist. We stopped for dinner at Il Fornaio. I wanted to take a picture of my food, but the place was so swanky feeling (and I already felt under dressed) that I didn't feel like it would be taken well to be taking pictures of my food (it was so beautiful!). So instead, when I went to the bathroom, I took a picture of the lamp 'cause it was kinda cool too. heheh. There was also an old man who kept staring and smiling at me, completely ignoring his not-that-wrinkly wife. bwahahaha.
