I went to the Berkeley Farmer's Market today with my friend, Kuukua, after going to the Y. There was a vendor there with the tiniest lettuce I've ever seen! The Berkeley market is pretty darn good - I'll have to go back another time when I have money...and buy some baby lettuce! 

Obsessed

I've seen this car on multiple occasions because it lives at a house on the way to Safeway, BofA, and other such important places in Berkeley. Clearly this woman is more than a little obsessed about her dog. She has signs about this dog in the windows of her house too. Well today I finally saw her AND her beloved dog. She got out of her car, went to the back got out a white cushion, placed it on the ground and THEN the dog stepped out onto the cushion (God forbid it touch the ground) and then they went inside. I only regret that I wasn't quick or stealthy enough to get a picture of that. Aaaand welcome to Berkeley.

Lake Anza

Went to Lake Anza today with Katherine to do some open water swimming. It was the perfect day! Sunny, hot, a nice breeze every now and then. Aaaaaaaaaaaaah. There was a rope under water that was standing up though, and totally looked like a snake. I freaked out when I first swam by it (and, well ok...every time I swam by it! I knew it was there, but it still took me by surprise every time!), BUT I didn't panic and I was able to keep swimming! Step 1 to conquering my fear of swimming in open water!

Kap, Katherine and I decided we needed to take a walk after lunch, so we walked down to Bancroft for some Yogurtland. On the way back, we noticed how inviting and sunny the lawn at Cal was, so we decided to take a lil' catnap. Aaah, glorious!

I've been kind of sick this week so that coupled with the fact that this has been the longest week from hell ever, I haven't been really had time to exercise. So yesterday I made plans with a friend from work to meet up in the morning and ride into work. Felt good to get moving again, and I logged 10 miles total today, even though a lady on BART yelled at me for taking up too much room. Sorry my bike is as big as your ass, woman. Ugh. hehe. Anyway, here is my bike chillin', waiting for the train to come. Check out my awesome bell. Yeah.

My co-workers and I teamed up and biked to work on "Bike to Work Day" today. There were energizer stations all around the bay - we got free tote bags, water bottles, etc. It was pretty fun!

See that? That's my bike. At work. Yeah. I rode to the BART station, then rode BART to Berkeley, rode up to work, and then did it all in reverse to get home. And I rode the entire way home. I mean - to my door. Literally. Now those of you who haven't been to my house may not realize the significance of such a feat, so allow me to elaborate. I live up on a HUGE hill. Literally our house is at the very top of this hill. I rode up the ENTIRE thing! I didn't think I would be able to do it, but as I approached the second block a guy driving by cheered me on. As I approached the third block, and thought "I need to walk!" a guy in his yard started cheering me on - he said he rode his bike all the time and he can't make it up this hill. I told him this was my first day riding my bike and he said I was doing "amazingly" and that my gear ratio was just right, but that I needed to oil my chain. I said thanks and he said, "keep it up!" So I did. I made it up the 3rd block with his help, and the 4th because I knew I couldn't walk after he was so encouraging! I'd be letting him down! Yay for awesome neighbors! WOOOHOOOO!

Flamingos

After a couple of rainy days it is once sunny and beautiful in the bay once again. The flamingos came out - even the rare albino.
