Memorial Day Weekend

An update from my Memorial Day weekend! 5-28-11 to 5-30-11

Biking along the American River! Some friends and I took the train out to Sacramento from Berkeley, and from there biked from Sacramento to Folsom. We made a few stops along the way, and biked out to Folsom Lake on the 2nd day, and back to Sacramento on the last day. Here is the American River on Day 1.  

 We got rained on the first day, and stopped in Fair Oaks to wait out the rain and play some bananagrams. Here is the cafe we stopped at.

 Bananagrams. Always a good idea.

Why did the chicken cross the road? I'm still not sure. There were tons of chickens in Fair Oaks!

Missed Connections

And now for something a little different. I've not been great at taking pictures lately, as you may have noticed, and even worse about posting them. However, I ran across this photographer's website today and I really liked this particular project he is doing. Check it out: http://kevinbuchholz.com/missedconnections.html He basically looks at the missed connections section on craigslist, then contacts the poster and sets up a photoshoot to depict the ad. I think it's really creative, and I sort of love the idea.

It reminded me, also, of this graphic novel: http://missedconnectioncomics.blogspot.com/ Check it out - it's basically the same idea as the photos, but comics artists put together an anthology based on the missed connections section.

I haven't ever read the missed connections part of craigslist, but both of these projects make me curious. Granted I'll probably forget to ever check them out, but I like the creativity that's come out of them and it reminds me to look for creativity and inspiration in what seems to be unlikely places! :)

Tape Graffiti Artist Strikes Again!

I officially joined a boxing gymn today. And since I signed up for the 8 month membership I got a pair of boxing gloves for free! Which is awesome because I was prepared to buy some today anyway. Here they are. Are they not things of beauty? I'm trying to go three times a week now. I'm so excited to have my own gloves - I LOVE IT!

5-22-11

Um...Hobbes decided to climb into the fridge in the two seconds it took me to put my salad on the table. I turned around and there he was. I half considered just shutting the door and leaving him in there, but I think he's pretty entertaining so I decided not to ;)

The electric tape graffiti artist strikes again! I spotted these in Berkeley, and they were gone the next day. Makes me wonder how many of them have been up and gone before I got a chance to see them. The one below was to the right and a little below the one above, so he looked like he was watching and commentating on their actions. 

Operation Cereal

5-20-11

Katherine and I slyly organized an escape plan for this box of cereal. It involved some rather high tech planning and throwing of the box over the edge of a balcony. This will provide a wonderful, wheat-free breakfast option for me for the next several days. 

More Bananas

5-19-11

This morning I was sort of in a hurry because I misjudged the time I needed to leave to catch BART and meet up with Nicole to bike to work. In my haste I set my morning banana down on my bed, and then proceeded to sit on it. Check out the big bruise. Poor banana. I still ate it, though it was not as pleasant as it would have been had I not squashed it with my bum.

I also got dog poop all over my pants this morning because the dogs enjoy pooping in the driveway and I think I rolled over it with my bike and then proceeded to get it on my pants legs.

The good thing is I'm so exhausted today that all of this just seems ridiculously hilarious.

Climbing

 5-15-11

Went to the climbing gym today with Jess, Nate and Sara to do some bouldering. Here are Jess and Sara being awesome and doing V2s and V3s. I'm still on V0s but I got halfway up a V1 today! I'll get there...

Birthday Fun!

5-14-11

Today was my friend Nicole's birthday party. We were able to coordinate a lot of her guests to pitch in and buy her a really nice bike as a birthday surprise. Yay for biking and for birthdays! Here she is with her son, who wanted to try it out as well ;) 

Another One Rides the Bus...Eventually

5-13-11

True to form this Friday the 13th has been quite weird. Here is a picture of the stupid bus at the stupid bus stop. It literally took me an hour to get home. First the bus was 20 minutes late. When it finally arrived the driver wouldn't let us on the bus and sat there for about 10 minutes. That is what you see here. The bus. Sitting there. Taunting me. Then, inexplicably, the bus driver just left. Then another bus arrived and DID let us  board. But the driver decided he needed a 20 minute coffee break before we could leave. Ridiculous.

What the...

What the hell? Where did my last 2 posts go? They're GONE! whodunit!?!?!

Bike to Work Day!

5-12-11

Today was Bike to Work Day! Nicole and I biked with her son to school before we biked up to work. Look at all the cute bikes lined up! Yay for biking! 

And here we are at an energizing station, getting our SWAG. I'm not sure why I insist on looking so awkward. I will try to convince myself that it is, indeed, endearing:

Clones

5-10-11

Took this picture on the 10th, but didn't get a chance to fix it up until today (the 12th), so am posting it dated the 11th. Compromise. Clones. Cats. C-words!

Finally Updating!

Ok! Here is the update I promised! Sorry I've been so sucky at updating, but here is why - I've been having too much fun! ;) I also posted another entry with the fate of Mr. Banana since I'd had that one already just hadn't posted it, but it really doesn't go with this group. Also, I haven't really had time to really work on any of these photos so they're not quite as nice as I'd like, but I don't know when I'll get a chance to really mess around with them and wanted to get them posted. The edited versions (as well as many other photos) will be on flickr soon if you want to see them. Anyway, enjoy!

5-4-11 

YOSEMITE! Mary came to visit and Jonathan came up from LA. We went to Yosemite for 3 days. It was WONDERFUL. 70s and sunny the entire time. Perfect. Here is um...Upper Falls? I think that's right. Correct me if I'm wrong, Jonathan or Mary (or Daniel).

We drove to Hech Hechy the 2nd day. STUNNING. I can see why John Muir loved it so much.

Drove out to San Jose to visit with family! Here is my cousin-in-law (is that a thing?) and his daughter! Isn't she adorable? And yeah, that IS a star trek onesie. Hell yes!

Visiting more family in Sacramento. My uncle took us to Old Sacramento where we found the most wonderful candy shop and proceeded to buy 1lb of salt water taffy. Mmmmm....candy looks better in barrels.

Berkeley! I took Mary to the Brazilian Cafe/Shack. She liked it! Yay!

Mary headed back to MI today and Jonathan headed back to LA earlier this week. I miss them both, but yay for getting to spend time together doing awesome things! :)

Now...back to our regularly scheduled program.
