Playing Hooky

9-27-10
Playing hooky from work by reading in a park, shaded by a redwood on a 90° day is always a good plan.

Awwww

9-23-10
Yesterday was Hubert's last day at the office. He left and we all said goodbye, naturally...sad but not anything special, I guess. Then, this morning I came to work and there was this huge red apple on my desk. I was all, "uuuh...who gave me an apple...I'm scared" 'cause you never know who might try to poison you. You know how it is. Anyway, later in the day I got a call from a co-worker to let me know she was going to be in later in the day. She also wanted to let me know that Hubert had got the apple and brought it to my desk to leave for me as his special goodbye. Awwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww. SO CUTE. I am making him my honorary grandfather. :-D

The Scene of the Crime

9-20-10
Here is the glass leftover where my car once sat parked, minding its own business, never doing anyone else any harm. Now it is in the shop, being repaired. So long faithful bike. So long faithful window. Until we meet again...

Bridges

Dinah Flirts With Danger

9-18-10
As we dug out garden #2 today, Dinah practiced her acrobatic skills by jumping from the table to the fence, and then from the fence to the top of the shed to the tree.

Irony

9-17-10
Went to the De Young tonight with Delphine after work. A friend of hers was dj'ing at the Mexican Independence Day celebration. There was music, dancing, a conga line, and we got to look around at the permanent collection for free, too, which was awesome. This picture is from one of the coolest rooms that we saw. It's a cathedral constructed entirely of firearms, bullet casings, bebes etc. If you look through the doorway (sorry this pic isn't that great thanks to my camera phone) there is a human spine inside. It, along with a lot of the other art in this room, made a pretty powerful statement on religion and violence.

Only in Berkeley

9-16-10
Only in Berkeley would you find a memorial to a fallen mountain lion, complete with flowers, messages, poems, pictures, and facts about mountain lions from upset citizens. There was even an "article" describing the "fact" that deer are far more dangerous and attack humans more often than mountain lions.

Gambling

9-11-10
Never bet Jess that she can't eat a pound of pasta in a 24 hour period. Because she can. And you WILL have to make her cookies.

Texture

9-10-10
I haven't been very good about taking pictures this week. I haven't really been very good at much of anything besides working, to be honest. But oh well...I thought this wall was kinda cool?

Te gusta estudiar Espanol?

9-8-10
No, no me gusta estudiar Espanol, porque muy es dificil!
I had a dream last night that every time la profesora asked me a question I tried to respond in ASL, and I couldn't stop, and she got mad at me for "waving my hands around" in a Spanish class. Ai yai yai!

Alfalfa...

9-7-10
Just when I thought my car couldn't get any more ghetto-fabulous, I outdo myself. Check it out - that twisted metal sticky-uppy thing on top? What's left of my bike rack. Here is a closeup:

I may or may not have forgotten that my bike was on said bike rack, on top of my car, when I drove into a rather low-ceilinged parking ramp. Yeeeaaaah. In my defense, neither of my passengers thought about it either when I said, "ooh there's a parking ramp." What's left of my bike rack is now duct taped down so it doesn't fly off. I will eventually remove it. I just haven't had time to go find the right sized tool.

G-Free!

9-6-10
Akiko is in town! We went to Berkeley to try out a pizza parlor with gluten-free crust. It was pretty darn good despite the fact that Jess is shaking her fist at it - better than the last gluten-free crust we tried at a pizza place.

Rip Van Winkle

9-1-10
Here is Jess...asleep...at a concert...how does she do it, you may ask. I have no idea. And yes, the opening bands WERE this bad.
