See that? That's my bike. At work. Yeah. I rode to the BART station, then rode BART to Berkeley, rode up to work, and then did it all in reverse to get home. And I rode the entire way home. I mean - to my door. Literally. Now those of you who haven't been to my house may not realize the significance of such a feat, so allow me to elaborate. I live up on a HUGE hill. Literally our house is at the very top of this hill. I rode up the ENTIRE thing! I didn't think I would be able to do it, but as I approached the second block a guy driving by cheered me on. As I approached the third block, and thought "I need to walk!" a guy in his yard started cheering me on - he said he rode his bike all the time and he can't make it up this hill. I told him this was my first day riding my bike and he said I was doing "amazingly" and that my gear ratio was just right, but that I needed to oil my chain. I said thanks and he said, "keep it up!" So I did. I made it up the 3rd block with his help, and the 4th because I knew I couldn't walk after he was so encouraging! I'd be letting him down! Yay for awesome neighbors! WOOOHOOOO!

Our neighbor gave us this CD. That's him in the window - he really looks just like that. He seems like quite the character, and like a good neighbor to have around. Plus, the CD is pretty good!

We had another really big rain storm today. It stopped around 5 though, just in time for me to BART home. This is the view from atop the parking ramp at the Fruitvale BART.

A co-worker of mine got stuck in France for an extra five days due to the volcano erupting. France. I know, poor thing, right? Anyhow, she got back today and told us all about how wonderful Paris was. Her sister, who traveled with her, was lucky enough to have purchased travel insurance so they were reimbursed for all the extra days they were there! So much was saved that she was able to bring us all back a bunch of euros. Look, I got 100!!! Ok...so it's chocolate. But...yum!

Our second veggie box! This is only about half of what we got this week - and we still have a little left from the last box. All organic veggies/fruits picked straight off the farm yesterday and brought to our door. OM NOM NOM NOM!

So I just got home and am really tired, and realized I forgot to take a picture today. Then I thought, "hey you know what this blog is missing, and what I know my faithful three readers wish they could see? MY FACE." So here I am. No no, no need for applause. You are certainly most welcome.

I'm not sure why I look this happy. Maybe 'cause my room is so freaking organized it makes me giddy. Either that or it's because that awesome scarf I'm wearing was made by my dear friend, Holly, and I loves her. Either way, thus ends my picture of the day. For today. Therapy

People have lots of different coping mechanisms for when they're feeling a little down, or the need to take more control of their lives. People drink, eat, talk, exercise, hire therapists, etc. I clean. Or I organize. Or, I do both. So last night I completely cleaned and rearranged my bedroom. The bed is now where the desk was, the dresser is where the bed was, and the desk is where the dresser was. I like it much better! My room feels bigger and more cohesive. My desk feels like a space I can use, and want to use. I bought a huge bulletin board and you can see I've posted 2 long lists of goals to it - I can't miss them when I walk in my room. This way I've organized my space and my thoughts and goals. 

This is therapy - Bekah style.

I'm studying for the GRE and math is not my favorite subject. I think that this problem right here is a perfect example of why I find math so frustrating. In case you can't read the text it says "Why could the following triangle not possibly exist?" WTF? What do they mean why can't it exist? It's right there! It exists! They drew it! A friend of mine works in the mail room at the school I work at. Apparently people she works with have a difficult time figuring out which boxes to put mail in and which not to. As such, she has devised this wonderful system where tiny little fire fighters and tiny little police officers guard unused mail boxes so that no mail is put into those boxes. When our facilities director saw this she laughed until she cried. Sometimes, at this place, laughing and crying are both necessary coping mechanisms.

My most recent freecycle acquisition. I have been wanting a sewing machine, to try sewing again (I haven't since I was fifteen or so). Machines are so expensive, though, that I hadn't done much about it besides put an ad on freecylce saying I wanted one. Well this weekend freecycle proved its magical genius because a woman e-mailed me and offered me this for free! I was pretty excited. I got it home and promptly broke the needle. Off to a smashing start! I think I need to find an operating manual...

Now if only Kermit would actually do what I want him to do, instead of just blinking green cursors at me...

I forgot my phone at home today, so I took a picture of my dinner. I made this soup from scratch. Even the stock...most of it anyway. Booyah. It was delicious and so nutritious! It was so nutritious in fact that I decided to eat cake and ice cream after for balance.

Tonight as I was making soup for lunch tomorrow I opened the drawer under the oven to look for a pan. As soon as I opened it I saw a tiny little mouse in the drawer. I pulled  the drawer all the way out, to try and get the mouse, and it ran under the stove and into the corner there (he's circled in red, in case you can't tell that's what he is). I tried to get the cats to go after it and from the looks of this picture you'd think Hobbes was doing a good job staking out, right? Yeah, well he actually had no idea the mouse was there. He just went under, sat there for a sec, and then ran out and promptly dunked his paws in his water bowl. Yep, smart cat. Great hunter, making his close relative, the tiger, proud.
