It's ALIIIIVE!

3-31-10
I just started my first batch of kombucha tea! See my pretty lil' SCOBY floating there in the jar?
I hope it turns out well and doesn't die, because I've become rather attached to the squishy thing. Hopefully in a couple of weeks I'll have some yummy kombucha tea

Wallflowers

3-30-10
Some pretty sad looking poppies trying to blend in with a white picket fence. Sorry guys, it doesn't make you more "American." Maybe if you tried to blend in with some apple pie...

Fuzzy Laundry

3-29-10
This week I have walked into the bathroom a few times to find that Hobbes has found himself a new spot to sleep. Um...no one use the towels on the top, ok? In fact, I suggest you dig as far down to the bottom as possible. He is awfully cute though, isn't he?

Oakland Pride

3-28-10
Today was the first time Oakland has hosted a marathon in 25 years. It was really fun to participate (as a member of a 4-person relay team) - the vibe was incredible. Residents were out cheering the runners on and excited for an event showing Oakland pride. After the race, our team plus a couple of friends went to find brunch. On the way, I found another source of Oakland pride - Oaksterdam University. Yes. Here in Oakland you CAN get a degree in growing pot for medical use. I hella <3 Oakland.

Big Winner

3-27-10
I'm running the Oakland Marathon Relay in the morning. Today was the race expo and I won a little stuffed Geico gecko! Here he is, enjoying the expo.

Acci Gallery

3-26-10
Katherine and I went to the Acci gallery today after running a couple of errands for work. There was a blue cat who had been turned into stone. I know this shot isn't very well composed or centered, but I had to take it stealthily so the white witch wouldn't notice and turn ME into a blue statue.

The Rainbow Connection

3-25-10
The view from my car this morning. It had been raining all night, and had just started raining again when I got in my car to head to work. And I noticed this rainbow straight ahead! It was a really big one and seemed like it started only a couple blocks away. I swear I saw a leprechaun sprinting away as I came down the street, but I suppose I could have imagined it.

Bromance

3-23-10
Paul and Russell wore matching outfits today.
Proof positive they're comfortable as a bromatic couple.
Need more proof? Their conversation:
"So have you ever actually been to that nuclear plant?"
"Well what do you mean by nuclear plant...?"

Weird

3-22-10
I bet you think this pizza looks pretty good. You probably think it looks pretty normal, at least. Well it's not. It's weird. It's weird pizza. In an attempt to enjoy pizza despite my new wheat-free life, I made the dough with oat flour instead of regular flour, and although it looks alright it tasted funky. It also had a rather bizarre consistency. It was, however, edible so I suppose it earns some points for that.

Rebel Without a Cause

3-21-10
Only in Berkeley would anyone be anal enough to add "Even for a minute" to a no standing/blocking sign. Did I block the driveway to take this picture - even for a minute? You bet I did. Take THAT ridiculous Berkeley yuppies!

Cupcakes...?

3-20-10
Jess was making cupcakes for a birthday party, and I was sad I couldn't eat any...so we tried making a vegan version (because it was the only wheat-free one I could find quickly). This is what the "cupcake" recipe produced. Um...yeah...they taste like nothing. Why, then, did I still eat three of them? Because the frosting was amazing...?

Proud to be an Anosmiac

3-19-10
Today was such a beautiful day that I couldn't stand staying inside for hours. So, after lunch my friend, Adrianna, and I decided that we ought to walk downtown to get some "Indonesian Ice." I didn't really know what to expect, so when we got there I ordered an ice with jackfruit and fresh coconut in coconut milk - all things I could recognize and sounded good. When my ice arrived though, it had more in it than I bargained for. The red pieces are seaweed jelly, and the green are avocado! There were other...jellyish...things at the bottom. It was definitely delicious, but I am not a fan of jelly-ish textures. Meanwhile, another co-worker who had come with us, Leslie, had ordered a durian ice. Apparently this fruit smells horrible but tastes wonderful. I tasted hers and loved it - and of course no horrible smelly consequences for me! I had a feeling the smell was getting to Leslie so I said, "I like yours better" (true) and she said "I like YOURS better" - so we switched. I. Love. Durian! SO TASTY! Sometimes, it pays to be an anosmiac.

Sneaky

3-18-10
Hobbes likes to go in my room and hide behind the door so I don't know he's in there. He snuck in and I woke up with him on my bed. This is him being a sneaky butt face.

Happy St. Patrick's Day

3-17-10
St. Patrick's Day - the day when we celebrate being Irish and St. Patrick getting rid of all those horrible pagans. Ew. I celebrated by wishing my dad happy birthday (he has green blood), sitting in the sun watching the sun set over the golden gate bridge while drinking home-made Irish Cream with a couple of friends, and then coming home and perfecting some traditional Irish stew. Topped it off with a nice cold wheat-free beer. Ok so the beer wasn't as traditional as it could be, but it's the best I could do. Tasted good too. Happy St. Patrick's Day, everyone!!!

A Sighting!

3-16-10
I spotted a jackalope today in Berkeley! I knew they existed!

From your girlfriends!

Trespassing

3-14-10
Yeah. I went into the men's bathroom. Why? Because I CAN.
Bwahahahahahah!

Aaah for a Latte

3-13-10
Jenny took me to The Temple coffee shop in Sacramento today. One of the best lattes (vanilla, of course) I've had. And it was purdy too!

SCIENCE!

3-12-10
It's another rainy day in the bay area. You can tell it was raining hard by how high the barometer's fluids are! Science rules!

Thursday, March 11, 2010

Brain Juice

3-11-10
Sipping my latte, studying for the GRE - aka "Godawful Ridiculous Enemy."  Something like that...at least it's a good excuse to go to coffee shops!

Thing One and Thing Two

3-10-10
Dinah and Hobbes. Clearly up to no good.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY, KRISTI!

The Chi Within

3-8-10
The dragon warrior whispers his truth through the tai chi of faithful Berkeley followers.

Lazy Sunday

2-7-10
It's a lazy Sunday in my favorite fat pants. Aw yeah.

PLAY!?!?

3-5-10
As I was making my breakfast this morning I left the door slightly ajar so the cats could go in and out as they pleased. They both ran back inside at the same time, and wondering why I looked up to find our landlord/neighbor's labradoodle standing in the entrance wagging his tail, clearly dying to play with our kitties. Dinah and Hobbes weren't so keen on this idea, so I played with him instead!

Magic Potion

3-4-10
Walking on campus today I found these magic purple berries. They transported me to a magical world of sunshine and joy.

Tacos Tacos Tacos!!!

3-3-10
Taco Truck Tuesday! Except it was Wednesday...anyway, here are Delphinie and Jess enjoying a mid-day excursion to get lunch at a Fruitvale Taco Truck. De-lic-ious.
Ok so I sort of cheated with 2 pictures, but that's only because I couldn't splice them together due to a virus on my computer (i.e. I can't open paint - and there are no rules saying you can't edit photos, which means I can splice them together).

Babies are Irresistible

3-2-10
On a work outing today, we stopped by Monterey Market.  They had adorable baby versions of just about everything there was - tangerines, artichokes, etc. Here my co-worker, Kap, holds up a lil' baby pineapple.
Awwwww, coochy coochy coo!

I Ain't Lyin'!

3-1-10
Out on my run today I saw this beast staring out at me through a shop window.
Needless to say, I ran faster - what if he saw how tasty I looked and broke out?!!?
